Skills Development
This will be a high-energy, instructional skating program geared towards improving speed, agility and balance of skaters. Skills and techniques are taught in a progressive format.
The Skills Development program provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing hockey. It is for skaters aged 8-12 years, who wish to continue to improve their confidence and skating ability.
Skaters are required to wear a CSA approved helmet, while hockey gear is optional (hockey sticks are not permitted)
Please note: In order to register, skaters must have passed CanSkate Stage 3, or if they haven’t taken CanSkate before, be able to:
- Skate the length of the rink using alternate strides
- Skate backwards with control and forwards with speed
- Independently stop forwards and backwards (without using the boards)
- Complete a one foot glide on each foot, moving forward over a distance of 10 feet
